| | Anybody want to form a sleeper team?
Hey everyone, just a quick background profile:
I worked for Preston and Yellow on the Dock from '96 to '02 in NJ, got my CDL in 2003 and then drove 6 months for Werner (just to get some OTR experience). Since then I got my college degree, worked for Citibank and then UPS, where I was just laid off.
I'd like to get back behind the wheel, maybe now is not a good time but I want to move out of NJ anyway so this might be a good time to do that.
I prefer sleeper teams because they get long distance trips so their is less downtime loading and unloading, looking for location etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

you'll need to return to trucking school and take a refresher course. and that by the way, may cost you as much as the first time you went to school.
then, you'll have to start all over again, with a driver-trainer, with a company, perhaps even werner again.......
and with the economy being the way it is, there isn't enough freight right now for anyone, even teams. then too, you are a stranger. no one knows you. it would be very difficult to find a team driver since you WILL BE considered a newbie all over again, at least to me, you would be. 6 months expereince would have been great, if you stayed with the occupation, but you didn't, you left.
what makes anyone think that when they lose thier current job, they can just be a truck driver....??? and in YOUR case......all over again...?? will you stick with it this time, or after 6 months, leave again...??

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I intend to stick with it. Last time I had some family things to sort out. My kids are all grown up, now. I'll see in unemployment will finance the refresher course. If not, F it.

You must be a really trusting sort to advertise for a co-driver on this forum. There are things you should know about someone before living with them in such small confines. For example:
1. My feet stink constantly.
2. I hate to shower and brush my teeth.
3. I travel with my 110lb mastif.
4. I scream violently when mas****bating.
I could go on and on as making such lists is how I get my kicks but you see my point?
Good luck.

Your finances are considered as well as your minority standing and property ownership.
If you have a vehicle (or 2+) and it/they are not older than 3-5 years, fuhgitaboutit.
If you live in a high dollar neighborhood (from working at Citibank and UPS), fuhgitaboutit.
If your house is bigger than a 2 room shack, fuhgitaboutit.
If you're White, fuhgitaboutit.
Do some checking though before really wanting to get back into Trucking as it's NOT what it was nor shall it ever be again.
MANY Team driven trucks are SITTING STILL or being given short runs because that's all that's available.
Good Luck in your quest.
