Seeking ride along and advice to enter trucking field. Old class1 license has lapsed because of family obligations. Have valid class a PERMIT for calif.Willing to drive for free. serious, resposible and honest.Located in s.f. or monterey bay area.

You would need to hook up with an Owner Operator but even with that insurance may prohibit it. Companies would require recent work history or driving school certificate to get hired on...

Altough not as common as it once was, it is still possible to start out that way, given the right circumstances.
At my last job(small family company) a driver's brother rode with him under OJT status and it was completely legal.
After the required period of time(6 months I think) the boss allowed him to use the truck for his CDL exam.
He was paid for his driving, and he saved all that school money.
Just a matter of knowing the right people, but it can be done.
