Question What is the best type flashlight and best brand battery?

I remember my dad had a Magnum flashlight that was built like a Space Shuttle component. I don't think a nuclear blast would have damaged it! However, I'm sure it was very expensive, plus it was heavy. I've also heard some say that the big ones aren't available any more.

I also remember having an old "lantern" battery style flashlight that was big and bulky. It seems to have the benefit of having a flat bottom so you can lay it down and it won't move. I'm not sure if the big lantern battery inside is a positive for long life or a negative for weight.

I've also heard some talk about forehead mounted lights that always shine light where you are looking. However, I'm not sure how powerful and long lasting they are.

Anybody want to offer their wisdom for the best flashlight for a truck driver?

Also, what is the best value in flashlight batteries? I'm sure, there are cheap ones that die quickly and expensive ones that last long. Its not as easy to say without experience which of those options provides the best value. Are there any cheap brands that also last a long time?

Thanks

I have a three-cell LED Maglite that my kids got me for Christmas. I use it every time I pre-trip and post-trip at night and I'm still on the original batteries. It's very bright, durable and reliable, not to mention a great self-defense weapon if the need arises. I don't think I'd accept anything else at this point.

I voted for the cheap one because I am a tightwad, and I also tend to lose things like that quite often. I'll set it down on my dolly while hooking hoses, leave it there and drive on down the road. If I had bought an expensive one, I would be pi****

Lightbulb I like the magnums

I like a three c cell magnum. I have put it through the harshest environments and it never breaks (even when I have dropped it several times by mistake) and I have had it for years. I like the mini mag but I lose track of it easier. I do have a back up (cheap) flashlight but have never had to use it.

Good for you brother. I just paid $1.00 for a flashlight at Family Dollar.
It works. I'll admit I rarely need it except to occasionally make sure I have an empty trailer when switching out at night.
Nothing against the high tech equipment, but it's not like I'm working in a coal mine.
Besides my night vision is almost superhuman from the corneal injections they gave us in jungle commando training.
