Default 70 hr 8 day help

I'm new and never really understood this. My trainer was more interested in rushing me up and down the hwy rather than teaching me something.

I'm more of a technical person and since the co that I work for uses software to catch errors I figured that I should to.

Currently trying one called "Laptop LogBook". Teaching me a lot till I get the hang of it.

My ? is, I have the prog set to 70/8. I entered May's logs. When I got to June it showed that I had 60 hrs on the 2nd as if gave me a 70 hr reset. I worked 10 on the 1st. May 31 showed that I had approx 20 hrs for June 1st. I looked several times at the surrounding days & I did not take any 34 hr breaks.

Do you get a fresh 70 at the first of every month? Tnx.

No, there is no monthly reset, just the 34 hour rule to get back all your hours.

A 34 hour reset can be any "consecutive" combination of off duty time and sleeper berth time.

That means you can be stuck at a truck stop 1000 miles from home, be off duty during the day and return to the sleeper berth at night. By combining lines 1 and 2 you can get a legitimate 34 hour reset (provided you did NOT log ANY driving or on duty not driving time within that 34 hour time frame).

On most paper log books there is a re-cap on the cover somewhere. Enter your hours on that religously and you can't go wrong. In any truckstop they have a plastic tool that you can use as a ruler for drawing lines and get one that has the 70/8 slots in it. With that you can put it on your re-cap and see the 8th day that is coming off making your calculations easier. I suggest using the re-cap also because I have had 3 DOT inspections that they just look at the re-cap. One of the cops told me that if the re-cap is UTD, then he will not dig further.

At the top of the re-cap are 8 blanks above the spot for the 1st. This is where you put the hours for the last 8 days of the previous month from the other log. Use the re-cap and it will be very self explanatory.
