just take it slow and steady, let up off the gas just a bit if you start to spin.
Learn how to install chains properly during the summer, so that you don't have to figure it out AFTER you've spun yourself out.

Just like when driving a car, you need to be in harmony w/your truck. You need to be able to sense the traction you have on the road.

Its easier to put your drive chains on if you lower the landing legs, drop your trailer, pull the fifth wheel handle and drive out.

Install the chains on your drive tires and hook back up.

It's lots more easy and not as dirty/greasy as slinging your drives with the trailer still in combo with the tractor.

Rules of the Road:

1) "If you need chains, you don't need to be driving!!"
2) You should CARRY chains on your truck somewhere yet unless you're an Owner Operator, buying them is NOT YOUR problem.
3) IF you determine that driving in Snow or on Ice is not SAFE TO YOU, then STOP or find a safe place to do such!!
YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF THE EQUIPMENT, not some flunky dispatcher!!
>>BETTER A LATE LOAD AND SAVED LIFE!!<<
4) There is no load so hot it has to cool off in a ditch or ravine!!

i totally concur........in my 20 years of driving, if i ever had to chain tires, i didn't NEED to be driving that day..........to this day also.......i haven't even learned how to chain tires, and i ain't about to want to learn either.

i never drove a truck that had chains ready and willing to be put on.....

so true........drive only as much as YOU FEEL comfortable with. NEVER let ANYONE, dispatcher, owner, or even the dumb@ss trucker's behind you push you to limits you need not go to........

so true again........many times in my career, i was told, "that's hot freight", or "IT'S GOTTA BE THERE"...........no shiot.......all loads "gotta be there".......but NOT at any risk of your safety.

then too comes another "rub"...........say you crash..........the Safety Dept will ask you "why did you drive, when YOU KNEW IT WASN'T SAFE".........???

you cannot blame that on dispatch.........you WERE the driver........
