Exclamation So you want to be a TruckDriver

First off lets begin with your current Lifestyle, do you have a family at home ? Do you wanna be their for your kids Birthday or school event ? If you answered Yes to either of those questions then trucking is not for you!!
This is not a job its a Lifestyle, you live and work 7 days a week, you are allowed breaks but these are taken in public places, your every move will be watched by the public in one way or the other. Your job preformance will be critized by every other so called fellow trucker, Forget about the smokey and the bandit, convoy, or moving on movies thats all B.S. Hollywood.
Im not saying its all bad I've been doing it for 25yrs and I would'nt stop if they begged me, But i've seen a lot of Rookies come into this Lifestyle and wish they had'nt.
Personally I've been thru 2 divorces have 3 kids of my own by three different women and have watched them grow up in pictures, I live in my truck and when i visit anyone i stay in the truck in their driveway, so before you jump into This lifestyle you best be pepared for the biggest change in your lifestyle that you may regret.
BUT if you choose to continue, good luck and rember everytime you say a TruckDriver is stupid you insulting yourself.

Not true for local P&D drivers and lots of line haul drivers. You are home most days or nights.

From the "I agree to disagree" department.

CORRECT because many (new) Drivers with a family whine about not being home enough or getting home enough.

I'm one of them that often wishes I had not begun this "lifestyle" in late '98 yet I'm still in it.

Well that's a bummer for you.
Divorces happen in and out of Trucking so trucking is not the sole culprit.
Incompatibility plays a LARGE part of most marriages ending in divorce.

Quote:
and when I visit anyone I stay in the truck in their driveway,
WHY??
Quote:
so before you jump into THIS lifestyle you best be prepared for the biggest change in your lifestyle that you may regret.
Works BEST if one is single or does not have children yet those two reasons are not indicative of success or failure.

Not another Apple Barrel theory.
I AM NOT insulting myself by calling some Drivers stupid for I as well as MANY others have done stupid things in Trucking.
Some Drivers just never learn therefore appearing stupid.

Anyways HIGHwaydweller, WELCOME TO TRUCKINGBOARDS!!
