WHY does anyone need a GPS?

If one gets lost easily like within 50 miles of ones home, maybe traveling isn't a good idea.

The OLD WAY to get places still works well: Maps, Phone calls (oral directions), WRITING THINGS DOWN and keeping them, and maybe a hand held Compass plus loads of Common Sense.

--I'm waiting for the GPS system to crash and then I'll be laughing hysterically at all the people that are then hopelessly lost!!--

I would rather have an alarm clock than a GPS. When you are running down I-80 from California to Chicago, you set your alarm for 8 am on Tuesday so you know it's time to turn left.

Here is a cut from a story about a fatal truck wreck in Wisconsin. The fact that they can use GPS data in trials is enough to keep one out of my truck.

W....s said GPS data showed that K...i, who made the Munster, Ind. to St. Paul, Minn. route three times a week, had returned from a delivery at 8:45 p.m. Friday night.

By 11:30 p.m. Kozlowski is alleged to have been at a bar in Indiana where he met up with Michelle K...e.>>>

This model is going for about $350.
PC*Miler Navigator Truck GPS unit for Commercial Truck Drivers
I have that setup only it's not the portable unit like that, its the software in my computer. I like it a lot but, it's definitely not 100% reliable. You still have to use your brain, i use mine mainly for keeping updated on how far i have to go and running my state reports for mileages for road tax reporting. But don't ever rely on them 100% of time they'll get you in trouble if not careful.

If you do your job right you have nothing to worry about and sure I will have all the old ways to get there for back up. You should move with the times or stay behind.

scared59 is on a distinguished road
Default Gps

You all have great points...first of all I would never leave home without my trusty truckers atlas. To me the main reason for the GPS is not the long part of the trip it's getting to the final destination. I also run a MS mapping software on my laptop which has always been helpful but the main question I have is does anyone know about the PC Miler GPS.
