Depends on who you're driving for and what their rider policy is. If you're not already driving, um, you've got some other priorities in front of you first before you start worrying about that, IJS.

Riding along when you are not driving isn't like going to Disneyland on vacation. She has to spend all day in the same room with you while you go through the joys of learning your new job and spend all day talking about how great your dispatcher takes care you.

When you drive team you only see eat other when you switch drivers and that truck gets awful small. A lot of drivers discover deep homicidal tendencies they never knew they had after working a few weeks with a new partner.

In my opinion, it is fun to take the wife with you for a couple of weeks after you get a handle on what is going on out there. But you better start saving for a lawyer if you are going to have your wife with you in a 8 by 12 box for 24 hours a day.

brigpilgrim is absolutely right. There ARE some couples who travel together and some who team together who do fine. But it's just not for everyone (like truck driving is not for everyone). My husband and I love each other to pieces, but we were always two SOLO drivers, each with their own truck. Once in awhile we would meet up out there and it was great, but we just need our space. We have it at home and we definitely had to have it out on the road. Neither of us sleep very well with someone else driving, even if it's the other one.

since you are not even a driver yet, i suggest you get your training at a school, then get hired, then get at least 6 months experience, then THINK about taking the wife along. trucking companies have "rider policies", some DO NOT. its that simple.

remember, as a new driver, you'll have your hands full. your wife (i think) will tire very rapidly driving along with you in the tiny "jail cell" of a truck.

you will become aggitated for what ever reason(s) a newbie gets aggravated with.

best to leave her at home..............

unless you like, jail cell confinment.
