There are still companies advertising in the truck stop magazines. Of course these outfits are getting pickier about who they hire.

It used to be a shortage of drivers in the industry and carriers would take pretty much anyone that had a license and a pulse.

We have too many drivers based on the current economy. This means a glut of equipment and reduced freight rates across the board. This is causing serious pressure on companies big and small to reduce their fleet sizes as well as cut expenses such as payrolls and benefits plans.

Now the carriers are looking for verifiable experience, good work histories, clean MVR, and good DAC report.

Newbies still have the mega carriers that are willing to accept entry level drivers. Of course the pay is going to be pretty low but then again a job that pays .25 cpm is better than no job at all.
