Default What's the deal with recruiters?

Talk about frustration...get this, I get a call from a Swift recruiter about 2 weeks ago, offering me a job and a start date on August 18th. This is awesome..., I've been out of work for a while now...I'm psyched!
For the last 4 days I've been trying to reach this recruiter to re-verify the start date and get things going. No answer..., no return calls...etc.
Finally, I call the terminal in Syracuse and they tell me they have no information about me coming to work for them at all and they currently have a back log of driver's waiting to come to work.
Now, I realize that it's the recruiters job to "recruit bodies", but do they actually tell people they have a job when in fact, they don't?
In these times when jobs are so hard to come by, it's so wrong to mislead people and get their hopes up...don't ya think?

You were probably not even talking to a Swift employee.
Many of these type of companies contract professional recruiting agencies who are working on commission and saying anything to build up a head count.
I discovered this years ago when I called a terminal directly(I think it was Burlington) and got lucky and spoke with an honest dispatcher.
I was an owner operator at the time and this guy started telling me about all the deductions and chargebacks the "recruiter" never mentioned.
He was just trying to get me to orientation with as little information as possible.
If I hadn't spoken with an honest person at the company I would have been duped.
These recruiters operate on a used car salesman level.

Well Ricky, I can tell you that the recruiter's name appears on the Swift website and the guys in Phoenix and Syracuse are both familiar with this person, so I would think this recruiter is definitely a Swift employee.
I will call this person until I'm blue in the face to get a reason why I've been mislead.
Thanks for your post though...Gator

Ok, still sounds like either incompetence or miscommunication. Don't understand how it could be so blatant.
My son-in-law trained with Swift and worked there briefly.
Too long of a story, but he got done wrong, so I'm a little biased toward them.

Nothing new about Swift burning drivers. The turnover rate at Swift is the highest in the industry.
