CHICAGO — The peak season for trucking companies this year has been anything but.
Truckload and less-than-truckload companies are normally in the midst of hauling products from ports and other sites to distribution centers in preparation for the upcoming holiday retail season. But this year has been different. Carriers haven't seen the typical spike in freight that some see beginning to take shape as early as mid-August and extending into November.
