Question Companies that train....

I am sure this has been asked dozens of times, I even may have asked in the past. But I want to know which company is a good start to getting my CDL and a job.

I know C.R. England, J.B. Hunt, and Swift are horrible, but in my case money is an issue. So I am just wondering which companies you drivers recommend that train you and give you a job.

Thanks,
Joe

Can't really recommend any company right now that will hire you off the street...with the extreme overcapacity in the industry right now, any company that hires you and trains you will also have you sitting in the truck stop 2000 miles from home for days or weeks waiting for a load...without paying you for it. Tough times in the industry right now. Check out the comments to the thread "Driving Schools Full."

Look into driving a School bus. They train you and give you a job. Usually a 8 month contract then you can move on. It will be a class b license, but it's better than nothing.

I kind of wanted to try OTR for a while then move on. School bus drivers are in need around here but wasn't something I was looking into doing. But I guess I will look into it a bit more.

Thanks for the fast replys.

I am currently a school bus driver looking to get a Class A.Its not a bad job but you only work 10 months out the of the year and to mention it's not a full 10 months due holidays and vacation. In Calif where it seems we have the worst of the budget crisis with no end in site. The first thing they cut is transportation.I've been laid off and I am also looking into Tour bus companies.I only paid 250.00 for everything which was repaid after working for them.I am also looking into career centers which are offering grants to get a Class A.

I drove a schoolbus and found a company that had class b delivery trucks as well as class a. I just practiced my backing after hours with their equipment. Voila! Free CDL training.

The best way to get your licence now is to find the cheapest school and pay cash. It is usually cheaper to pay cash because the price is not inflated. Community colleges can be as cheap as $300 in California.
