Default Mad,Mad world.

So you guys think your country does strange things, Well the other day one of the two Elephants here in Auckland zoo had to be put down due to ill health (IE) arthritis, old age etc, well the good people of Auckland (not me) declared a day of mourning for poor old Kashin & the zoo was closed for a day so the staff could mourn all very nice, but for Christ sake it's only a bloody Elephant, I know it was great for the kids etc but three children aged 3,16 months & 9 months were bashed by the parents/care givers & died & nothing was said by the good people of New Zealand nobody (except me maybe) gave a that 3 innocent helpless little kids died, but a poxy old Elephant dies & it's oh so sad, is it just me or are we a sick bunch of barsted in this world these days, just an old truckers opinion.

maybe with all the news that's available these days from around the world, we have become "de-sensitzed" by what happens to human beings....??

there isn't a day that goes by, IN MY local news, a child isn't raped, beaten, killed or whatever else, one can imagine.......and it sickens me to death too, after all, i put importance to a human ANY DAY, over an animal.......

when its animal cruelty it sickens me as well.........and i'll want to see the bloody bastards that caused an animal pain to be severaly dealth with as well.........

in your case, "down under" and even here in the states, maybe because people have a genuine love for animals and respect for them, that they have lost a dear old friend....???

one time, many, many years ago, a zoo up here in my state, had to transfer an aging elephant to a "farm" far away. the city zoo could no longer take care of her..............and the area she had up here was way too small for her. i don't knowif she is still alive or not.........

but brother..........you should have seen the "send-off"........marching band, party, you name it.............and then the tears from many of the people there...........

thier precious elephant was leaving..

so yeah, only an elephant...but to some, an "iconic symbol"..........

"update"........

i just looked up that old gal from my local state zoo........

she was at the zoo for 30 years, then transferd to texas, she died in 2003..........the zoo had a staute made in her likeness, and the local (but big) newspaper ran an obituary on her as well..........she was 59 when she dies, but she had something at the "farm" she hadn't had in decades.........."elephant friends"...........

so you see, my "down under friend".............

yes, a bloody elephant gets a send-off fitting a king.............

"some of the excerpts from my search"..

Quote:
"Originally a circus elephant, she was purchased from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1958 by the City"
Quote:
"While at the ranch, Tara, was given something she hadn't had in decades--elephant companions"
Quote:
"Upon learning of her passing, the an obituary for Tara and2007 the City dedicated a fiberglass sculpture to her, which stands within sight of her old barn".

I think it has something to do with the media fascination of this planet. entertainers are heroes, heroes are nobody, and nobodies are lucky to get mentioned. ah, what a culture.

I know what you mean Pro1, when I was a kid in Wellington they had a elephant at the zoo & I have fond memories of feeding that gentle giant & riding on it's back, it just seems so sad to me that young innocent kids die with hardly any concern but old Kashin the elephant gets TV coverage etc in fact it was breaking news on TV.
I don't know about the USA but nearly all the food supermarkets have food bins at the entrance & exits down here & low an behold, all the bins for animal welfare are full or close to it, the ones for human charity & food banks usually empty or close to empty, we also have the English honours system down here which means if you are are big business owner or industry baron you get knighted & called Sir Ronald or what ever, if you are a parasite who sucks money from the workers you get knighted, if you are the skipper of a yacht in the America's cup you get knighted, but if you are a plain old Joe blogs like you or me & save a family from a burning house, some one from drowning you get Jack Shit, & yes I agree anyone who deliberately harms an animal deserves to be dealt with severely.

No precious, it's not time for you to start commenting as you're obviously not fully awake (if ever).
WE will alert you as to when you may begin yet it's not today and tomorrow isn't any better.
