Default Local Route HOS--Questions

I work for a company and run a local run within 100 miles of my terminal. We don't work the warehouse and stop at between 8-20 stops a day. Since we are using the time clock for our log book I understand we can't work more than 60 hours total. I was curious since we dont work the dock at the terminal are our hours counted as all on duty driving time and would we only be allowed to work 11 hours total from punch in to punch out? I've ran a log book before and never worked a route with no log book and was curious as to how this really works. Nobody at the company has been able to give me the exact answers. At some stops we are there for 5-15 minutes and others 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hour it just all depends. Can someone clear this up for me? I dont want to get screwed by DOT and dont want to get sued if god forbid I got in an accident.

Those 15 to 1.5 hr stops would on duty not driving. As for hours in the day if you go over 12hrs in a day you must log that day. You can work up to 16hrs as long as you have no more than 11hrs driving that day. You can go up to 16hrs on duty once every 70 hrs as long as you start your day and end your day at the same place all week. I hope this helps. Other wise others with along to explane it better.

I think you explanation just about covers it. I know our local guys run exempt logs. We don't "punch". I run a log all week since I run a layover run on mondays.(no 16 hour rule for me)

I don't have my F.M.C.S.A. rule book infront of me at this moment, but I think the 16 hour rule needs to be followed by a 34 hour "reset".

Thanks for your help but during the (so called training) we are told we are covered by the 60 hour rule not 70. It's also stated we dont need to do the logs and I questioned this (to someone without a cdl who's the supervisor) and was told not to worry we are covered by the punch clock for a log book. I understood the 11 hour total driving time/14 hour(16 once a week) but if when you do go over 12 hour and then must fill out a log book how would you know exactly how long you were at the stops(because your not running a log book until after 12) that seems like you would be guessing and I was always told your logs must be maintained immediately as you start/stop each DOT regulation like getting out of truck to make delivery/getting back in to drive to next stop. This is why I am confused by this and haven't been able to get a straight answer.
