Default do most truckers cheat on log books?

My cousin used to drive OTR for several different companies. I got laid off and was considering going into trucking. I live in Kentucky and my needs for my family are small. My Cousin, "Joe" says every trucker lies on their log books.

I am not so sure. I know there are probably some companies that push truckers to "extend" themselves, but I can't believe it is a broadspread practice to say you only drove ten hours a day when you REALLY drove twelve.

Am I nieve? Is that what I will be expected to do?

Just wondering as I consider changing into this field. I can do electronics and fix computer networks for large corporations but hate being in a small cubical all day.

I also am older and need to take care of my family.

Thanks ya'll!!!

No trucker should ever falsify their log books....period.

No member better give out any information on how to falsify their log books.
This forum is not about cheating and/or falsifying documents.

He didn't ask if they should, he asked if they did.

I would venture to guess that a large majority of drivers DO falsify their logs on a regular basis. I've seen way too many examples of it from a wide spectrum of drivers, from daycab drivers to OTR longhaul drivers and from just about every company out there, including the paperless log companies.

Should you cheat? No. The laws are there for both your safety and the safety of those around you. Any company that expects you to cheat should be a company to avoid.

Let's not go overboard on the moderation, especially with ultimatums. The guy asked a simple question and it deserved an answer. You failed to do that, which might just encourage him to go somewhere else for that information where he very well could get tips on how to cheat.

He who governs least governs best. Or something like that. :)

Where's the over moderation? I'm preventing this topic from going in the wrong "How-To" direction.
I'm not stopping anyone from chiming in and answering his question.

I stand by my statement. Truckingboards does not condone logbook falsification.

I've been driving since 1979. Yes there is a lot of log book cheating out here. When younger and dumber I did it. Now it just doesn't pay to cheat like it used to. There are too many ways for DOT to cross check and verify what you have been doing. Anything from phone records, fuel receipts to the PrePass that a lot of drivers now use.

Its just not worth the fine or the possible accident that can result from mismanagement of personal time to cheat. Best way to run is proper trip planning. Keep the left door closed and just get the job done. But thats just my opinion.
