Not industry/business needs a truckload of product from someone else. So yes, LTL shipments save money b/c the shipper pays less to get that one pallet or so to their customer vs. the amount of money it would cost for the same pallet to go by itself with a truckload carrier.

Theres nothing special about it at all, it just allows companys to ship less than a truckload at reasonable rates, carriers pick-up their freight take it back to a terminal where it is mixed others to make a truckload sent on to a nearest terminal to be delivered, or another terminal enroute where it is again mixed with freight going to that city or area for delivery. From a drivers stand point its a home-time thing, most are home everyday.

Some Drivers make many stops, some not so many.
Some just run Line Haul.
Some do 1 or 2 nights out, some more, some less, some do not.
Some run local, some multi states.
Some pull single Pups, some pull doubles, some pull 45', 48' or 53'.
Some pull Reefers, some Dry Vans.
Some see some doing something attractive, some do not.
It's all about what one desires.

I just last week began a gig running LTL with stops in various locations close to each other.
It was 1 night out.
Driving a 48' dry van combo with a lift gate and an electric pallet jack.

If you like lots of physical labor and working out with a pallet jack, then LTL is for you...

That depends on where you work along with a lot of other factors as well, like how much senority you have.

Personally all I do is drive. M-F weekends off and home every night.
