Default 2004 Volvo Dash issues

I have a 2004 Volvo and the speedometer tends to stick every once in awhile. It's happening more often lately. The tach seems to be right on, but the speedo will stick at say 50 mph when really your going 70. It also will stay there sometimes when you slow down, but when you speed up - the speedo will also go up so now thw speedo says your going 90 when really your only going 75.

Any ideas on what the problem is or could be?

Chad

If it were the speed sensor wouldn't the miles (odometer) be messed up?
The odometer seems to still be right on...

It must be a Cable operated Speedometer which suggests the Cable needs to be Lubed and that in and of itself is a daunting task for experienced Mechanics/Wrenches.
Whenever it is removed, some Graphite installed in the Cable housing should eliminate the sticking.
If that idea doesn't work or seem feasible, check here:

The speedometers on these trucks are totally electronic--no cable at all. The odometer may or may not work properly if the speed sensor is faulty. If your cruise control is acting up that would also indicate speed sensor issues. If it isn't, I'm a dummy. :-)
