Default need some advice, i have a few questions

I'm 33, married w/ 2 small kids, and am seriously thinking of becoming a driver. first, would any1 recomend or not recomend me doing this? and why? also, i made some dumb mistakes when i was younger, and i have a felony arrest from 5 yrs ago. i wasnt convicted, i still have all my civil rights, but are there any companies that will hire me? i need to make a change in my life to support my family and i believe the trucking industry may be what i am looking for, but i dont know. any advice would be great.

Number one reason NOT to do it. You will be gone for weeks at time and you will miss your kids growing up.

APPLICATION DENIED! With the way the economy is right now and the amount of clean drivers looking for work, you chances are slime that a decent company would consider you. Plus, most companies want 7-10 years past the conviction date.

There are reasons that I would reccomend someone becoming a driver, and reasons why I would not reccomend a person becoming a truck driver...

If you like driving, seeing different parts of the country, are a free spirit, like spending lots of time alone, making decent money, these are reasons to become a truck driver...

If you don't like to drive, spend lots of time alone, don't like being away from you family, eat at truck stops all the time, take showers at truck stops, be tired all the time, then don't become a truck driver...

I worked for years in the restaurant business, and hated it...I hated being cooped up in the same place all day long...I would always look out the window and wish I was in one of the trucks I would see going by...

I am much happier driving a truck, than when I worked in the restaurant business....

I don't know if the felony arrest will have an impact on you or not...

If you see trucks, and are fascinated by them, want to be around them, and wonder what it would be like to drive one, then possibly, it might be something you would enjoy...On the other hand, if you just want to do something, anything, and think trucking is just something you wanna give a try, it probably wouldn't be something you would hang with...

Just my opinion, and good luck to you, and God bless you and your family...

I have to agree you have to kinda live, sleep, eat, and breath trucks to have a happy life as a driver. I havent met one driver that liked what they were doing if it was just a job to them.

Also wouldnt think that a felony aresst would hurt if you werent convicted of anything because it shouldnt be on your record. But if it does alot of companies dont care. If you were convicted you wouldnt be able to haul hazemat loads or cross the border so then it could affect what companies will hire you.

With a felony you won't be able to haul hazmat. I also would'n recommend going over the road if you have a family. The only way I would reccomend you get into driving is if you can get a local job but unfortunetaly with that felony that's gonna be hard to do. I suggest you look into getting that felony expunged
