Default Feds propose new law against texting while driving targeting commercial drivers.

Washington Launches New Push to Curb Distracted Driving - WSJ.com

I think we all know this is a bad idea. (texting while in motion) I think this is n example of wasteful legislation. It lets lawmakers say "look what I did to protect you" In reality, it has little or no effect on the public whatsoever.

It gives the state police another PC reason to make a traffic stop whether or not you did. This is just more police state tactics, all done in the name of safety. Want to make driving safer? Make everyone take a written and driving skills test three times as difficult as now to pass. That goes double for the police state enforcers who drive like idiots.

I agree Ranger especially the last sentence, I was driving to work on I-40 in my pick-up, i looked in my driver mirror and saw nothing, next thing I know an Arkansas state trooper was in the left lane passing me, I swear to you he was doing 150mph, scared me to death, not a light one one except headlights.

BTW Arkansas has banned texting in all vehicles, first fine $160.00, all other fines after that I believe $190.00 something...

I believe this is just a start next there going to be against using the cell phone at all in commercial vehicles. My wife pulls doubles for Ben E Keith, and last night they made all of the drivers sign an acknowledgement that NO cell phones at all will be used in the company trucks period.

I AGREE with the Texting Ban and those that get caught DESERVE the fines/penalties.

The ONLY WAY to ban cell phone use at all times is to eliminate all cell phones from ones personal possessions before beginning a Tour/Run/Trip.
I will refuse to sign anything that states I cannot communicate with a cell phone when say PARKED or for an Emergency related need like reporting a Drunk Driver, Wrong Way Driver or a recent wreck/accident/fire/etc, whether or not I'm driving.

I rarely talk on a cell phone when driving 18 wheelers unless I'm either in a BIG Brake check or PARKED.
