manual vs automatic

I want to buy a used volvo vnl780 but i am not sure witch transmission would be better: auto or manual?? Can somebody please help me? until now I only dorve manual transmissions and I do not know what to do ....

well, you buy what YOU WANT...........

that's what you do.........!!!

for me however, i absolutely DO NOT LIKE THE AUTOMATED (not automatics) that are available.

they are called "automated" because you STILL HAVE a clutch pedal.

a "fully automatic" has NO clutch pedal.

so, going on a "pre-sumption" that you are speaking of the automated type.........

i think THEY STINK........

they upshift way too quick and downshift way too slow, all in the name of fuel savings.

yes, they DO save you from shifting up/down while cruising, but if you forget (and you will) to put in that clutch when approaching a toll plaza or red light or what ever else, you might stall out the engine, or at the very least, have to manually shift, to get started again.

i'll stick with a MANUAL any day of the week on an 18 wheeler.

my pick-up truck can and WILL BE a REAL automatic.............

Volvo like all other Manufacturers offer Auto-Shaft, standard 10 Speed, Super Ten, 13 and probably 18 speeds.
Auto-shaft is generally in the standard 10 speed format and while some Drivers prefer these to Manuals, there are more SENSORS (see getting the shaft) to go screwy than Manual 10s.

I drove an 2001 Auto-Shaft Century Class for about 3 years and it had a Clutch.
It topped out at 85+ and averaged 7mpg.
It offered no problems unlike the 2003 Columbia that the Owner of the company drove with the Auto-Shaft Sensors that kept blowing out.

Were I to buy a Truck, I WOULD ONLY BUY A 13 SPEED because ANY Manual is cheaper than ANY Auto-Shaft!!
