Default GPS Causing Truckers to Crash Into Bridges

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York state wants to crack down on truckers who rely on satellite devices to direct them onto faster but prohibited routes and end up crashing into overpasses that are too low for their rigs.

So nobody crashed into bridges before GPS?

Why doesn't New York mark there bridges at the true clearance. Then drivers wouldn't ignore the signs.

The problem is there are to many sterring wheel holders who dont have a clue about looking on a truck road atlas and they thing the gps will guide them through, and all they are using is a gps designed for 4 wheelers, they dont look at the signs thus the crashing into bridges.

Maybe drivers should learn how to READ A MAP!!!!!!!!!!. Compare the route that the GPS gives them to a trucking atlas. The atlas has a list of LOW CLEARENCES in the front of it. It is even broken down by state. It also has a list of RESTRICTED ROUTES.

Anytime my GPS gives me a route suggestion in an area that I unfamiliar with, that is what I do. My GPS has a truck option, but it is not 100%. I have already caught it running me on a road with a low bridge.

Yes, I know, a map is not 100% either.
