| | A rock solid investment.
This company (YRCW) has played the shell game with our money for several years. According to our financials, the shell game has kept our doors open, but we are still struggling to survive. We have saved money by not investing into new equipment. We have saved money by not investing into maintaining our facilities. And we have taken pay cuts and pension cuts trying to save money. All seemingly, just to survive another day. Yet, still we struggle.
I have a suggestion for Corporate.......How about starting to invest into your PEOPLE? Your people are the most important assets that you have. Yet, you continue to treat them like second class citizens. You have failed at upgrading the quality of equipment that we operate. We enter our facilities embarrassed by the looks of the exterior, that is visible to the public. You have cut our pay and pension, you call people back off lay off, only to put them back on lay off within a few days. So this tells me that you are ok with us being treated like second class citizens. Your operations Mgt. people are so disgruntled by the cuts that they have taken, that they could care less about the future of the company. They seem to be there only for a paycheck.
We have all taken massive financial cuts to help this company survive. But it's time we start getting treated with respect for our sacrifices. These 1970's attitudes in your management regime are outdated. The old dinosaurs mentality of "the beatings will continue until morale improves" philosophy just isn't working. The dinosaurs went extinct because they couldn't adapt to the changes that they were facing. You have some dinosaurs, at all levels, that need to become extinct in the trucking industry. Their philosophy is outdated.
My point is that this company has a lot of drivers/dock workers that I would classify as the "cream of the crop". Yet, they are kicked around like they are just a worthless number. If you want this company to survive, you need to get some people leading this company that have some people skills. If they don't know how to treat people with respect, throw their butts out on the street. In my opinion, you will not pull this company out of the gutter by yourselves.....You need our help. But, how many of us are willing to help, when we get crapped on at every opportunity that our direct supervision gets?
I understand that the Management have also taken several cuts. I'm not overlooking that. But, they were hired to be leaders of this company, that's the responsibility that they accepted, cuts or no cuts. So if they don't want to do what they were hired to do, and just want to pout and trip over their lip every day....send them packing. Get some true leaders to help right this ship.
I've been around long enough to remember how the attitudes were "back then". And I know that things have changed regarding pay, benefits, etc. etc. So I understand that it is much tougher in these times to keep everyone happy. But, people can only take so much crap before they throw in the towel. By being treated poorly, I can guarantee, that you are not getting the best out of people that I consider "the cream of the crop".
In my opinion, the best investment that this company could make would be in their PEOPLE. Invest in leaders that have a background and resume that proves that they work well with people. You can keep moving the money around until we finally fold, if that's the route you chose. But, my suggestion is that you start taking care of your most important asset.....YOUR PEOPLE.
YOU CANNOT RIGHT THIS SHIP WITH EVERYONE PULLING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS!

Amen Northern Flash well spoken. They treat us all like dirt and wonder why some just don't care anymore. The bottom of the board guys really get crapped on. I'm all for seniority but most guys are getting 12 to 14 hrs. per day and percenters getting 1 or 2 days a week and struggling to feed their families just doesn't seem right.

It's like they are concentrating so much on playing the shell game with the money, that they have forgotten about their people. With all of the things that we have lost, it seems unreal that they would even crap on us when they don't have to. It seems that they are so bitter, that they go out of their way to crap on us, as if that will help their misery. (side note to the disgruntled management that have this mentality....leave the company, that will help with your misury.)
Clearly, their "Management style" of running this place isn't working. So why don't they try to treat their people right, get the maximum out of each employee, and see if that turns this place around?
It's going to take some top brass kicking them, for kicking us, to ever turn this place around. But, I guess the top brass are too busy with the shell game.
Note: My signature says it all.

Holy cow, Flash that was spot on. I have preached (to death ears) for months to our management about the advantages of using the men in areas of town, that they established in the past. Down here, were so close to regaining the old Holland edge. All we need is a little good news and our freight will return. Our sales big pitch is SEPARATION. By that I mean from YRC.

What ever happened to the days when they actually listened to us? |

I agree, try to keep the drivers in the same area and the freight will come back. I am one of the few bid drivers in GR, ex HO terminal driver. I can't tell how many customers have said to me that they wish they had the same driver. Nothing against the GR drivers but keep the drivers in an area. Drivers are our best sales people.
