Log Book question
Not really a newbie, but a newbie question. I've been OTR trucking for the past couple of years but never ran into this situation before. I work off the 60 hour/7 day rule, and in the past I've always been off duty well before I neared my hour limits. I've got a few questions regarding this. Here's my last week with hours on duty each day.
Day 1 - 1 3/4
Day 2 - 10
Day 3 - 9 1/2
Day 4 - 10 1/4
Day 5 - 14
Day 6 - 7 1/4
Day 7 - 6
I've been told my hours on duty last 6 days and hours on duty last 7 days should always be equal. This doesn't make sense to me. By Day 7, if I add up my last 6 days it's 57, and my last 7 days is 58 3/4. Is that how it should be done?
Also, does this leave me with 1 1/4 hours or 3 hours available on Day 8?
How many hours do I have to be off duty now before I can restart my 60 hours? I've been told 24, and I've been told 34. In the past I've always been off at least 34 hours, so this wasn't an issue.
And lastly, do you always have to take a break before the 60 hour clock restarts? I've also been told that it automatically restarts after 7 days, which didn't sound right to me either.
You can probably tell my company never put me through any training on this. I was pretty much thrown to the wolves and figured it out as I went. Thanks for any help getting all this figured out.
