For all of you truckers out there
Hi all you truckers out there!! I am from eastren Tennessee near a city called Knoxvile, and this august I started 9th grade (freshman year of high school) and over the summer I have gave some throught about becoming a Long haul truck driver. I am only 14 years old, but I have thought out a (what seems to me) pretty good plan. I want all of you to know that I have read endless blogs, articles, and stories through out the summer, I have talked to my school bus driver, who recently retired from the Teamster Union, and this may sound odd from someone like myself but I have watched and listened to a few truck movies and songs. I have watched Smokey and the bandit (one and two) and Convoy. I have listened to Red Sovine songs and a few CW Mccall songs.
HERE IS MY PLAN
1. get my permit to drive regular cars and truck (4 wheelers) at age 15.
2. get driver's license at a age 16.
3 finish high school at age 18.
4. get a regular job after high school (Mcdonals, Burger king, DQ, package handler at UPS)
5. sign up to go to a truck driver CDL school at age 20 or 21.
6. GET MY CDL.
7. Apply for a job at Scinder Natinal or Swift.
8. If I get the job, take their brief training corse.
9. start driving Long haul.
10. Drive for 3,4, or 5 years, and get some exprince.
11. QUIT THAT JOB (unless I like the company alot)
12. get another job at a place like Wal Mart, USF Glen Moore, or other high paying company,
13. work their for a few years
14. Apply for a local job when I get much older (SLEEP IN MY OWN BED)
15. RETIRE
I think it is a pretty good plan.
During my first years as a trucker I am not going to buy or rent a house or apartment, because I am going to
live out of the truck. Why would they be a need for a house, I will never be home while out on the road.
Remember, the only truck driver I know is my school bus driver.
If you guys don't mind, how much money is posible the 1 year up to the 5 year with Swift or Schinder Natinal? What would be my average? I will lve it if you guys could give cent per mile and yearly pay after taxes. What would my average be with a good compnay like Wal Mart?
Thank you all, and may god ride with you and you be safe out there.....
