The U.S. fruitfully negotiated with the Soviet Union and China when both powers threatened America with nuclear destruction.

The Bush administration has been making progress in nuclear talks with "pariah" North Korea.

If WW2 must be dredged up, a more appropriate reference would be Nazi Hermann Goering's famous formula for fascism: "All you have to do is to tell them (the people) they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Iran has no long-range missiles, nuclear weapons or bombers. Its decrepit air force barely flies. Iran's so-called navy is a lightly armed coast guard.

Its ground forces are immobile and lack all forms of modern weapons. Tehran's defence budget is the size of Poland's or Norway's, and 100 times smaller than U.S. military spending.

It's the great Iraq scare all over.

Republicans again are playing to the least-educated Americans by frightening them with fairy tales and outright lies.

They have developed in cooperation with their Allies in North Korea a long range missile that reaches Europe , and with their petrol and petrol dollars can buy more tech from China who is all to willing to sell tech and missiles that can reach even further. China launched missiles last year that reaches the West Coast of Canada and the United States also with the tech stolen and obtained in the Clinton and Bush eras the guidance is much improved not the same Scud's that Iraq used in the 90's.

What do we have that Iran wants?
China wanted trade partners, the USSR wanted to avoid mutially assured destruction. Iran wants destruction so the 12 Iman can come.

First off our defense budget is so large because we have to defend the world.
Second, I do not fear Irans military, I do fear the religious zealot with a suit case bomb planting it in downtown New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc....
Militarily we would crush them. Israel would crush them. Most of the people in Iran want freedom. They are starving. Their economy is in shambles, so why legitimize the govt? If you think Amendiajad was duly elected, then you are really mistaken.

What exactly would we be fighting Iran for? Will it be O.I.L again, you know, Operation Iranian Liberty. Liberating them the way we liberated the Iraqis? I honestly believe many haven't got a clue what this is about! But if it involves killing people they're prejudice toward, then they're all for it. After all the Iranians are Muslims, so who needs a legitimate reason, right. Reminds me of Country Joe...."put down your books and pick-up a gun.
