Default dissapointed

i can't beleive this forum has not growing more. when preston was in bussiness they were a strong company and many people worked for that company. i never did, but i had many many family members that did in all areas of the company. i here alot of drivers and dockworkers say "that was one of the greatest places to work." if thats true nobody shows it. where are the forums like some of the other ones?
1-who's in your barn
2- where u working now
3- the history of the company
4- which terminal were u at
and so on. i know alot about this company, and other carriers but this one was the closes to me and i'd like to know more about it and the experiences i never got first hand except through conversation with the family and visiting them at work every so often there.

I feel the same way you do......... I even sent Jeff an e-mail with all the Carriers that are in the Boneyard section, Trying to get some conversation going and didn't want them to be forgotten......... I am really surprised that Carolina and Akers
don't have any chatter going on... Carolina at the time of the ABF merger was the Sixth largest and Preston was about
8th before they went under........ just seems there would be more people around......... I only worked at Preston for 2 days out of the Union hall at the Glen Burnie MD. terminal.
My sisters ex worked there for 11 years he ended up moving to eastern shore to work out of the Preston MD headquarters
until they closed......... The best you can do is tell the people you know about these forums and keep posting.

I think alot of ex-Prestons are going through alot of adversity right now since they went to work for Roadway and Yellow.

i think your right jet moses, figure in the last 10 to 15 years look at all the union carriers that have gone under. there's alot of people that went to yellow, roadway, holland so they could complete there time and they still might not be able to. i feel bad for them and hopefully everthing will be ok. my dad is short by 1-1/2 years to get his 30 years in with the teamsters and the rest of the family need alot more. i don't know what all these people are going to do if the worst does happen.

It's a horrible situation. I think about my shop steward back in 2002---

He was a total POS, but I bought all the rah rah teamster BS he was feeding.

Preston was the best job I ever lost. I have worked for Roadway for 4 days when they went out and didn't like it, then Conway for 4 months and didn't like it either, then Holland as a casual for close to 5 months and they had a lay off that lasted almost 2 years but I went on to Alvan Motor for 3 years liked it but it was at a lower pay scale,(still NMFA), but I knew they would go under so I left and went to Yellow. It would have been 6 years this August but right now I'm laid off and don't expect a call back for a lllllooooooonnnggg time. I have worked with guys from Preston at every job I've had since they went out and no matter how long it's been the ole 151 line still comes up. Hell I turned my Yellow racing hat into a Preston hat with an old patch. When asked why by my supervisor (I wore it to work almost every day since the news of the merger) I told him it was my reminder that Yellow screwed me once and they were getting ready to do it again. hahaha my barn was in Cincinnati by the way.
