Restrictor plate racing is a joke. Jimmy Johnson was blessed by being in the right place at the right time and Mark Martin drew the short straw, plain and simple.
The last crash was no surprise to anyone. They just have to hope they survive it.
It was a familiar scenario. It's always some dumbass back mid pack or further that does something stupid to try to gain one spot.
That crash was a nail biter. It's amazing how it started to lift and float in slow motion before spinning, rolling and flipping to a stop.
Soon as the driver got medically released, he was being interviewed and was ripping Nascar for the restrictions.
"Drivers used to be about to race each other and respect each other," said Newman. "Guys like Richard Petty, David Pearson and Bobby Allison -- all those guys have always done that. I guess they [NASCAR] just don't think much of us [drivers] anymore."
Yes it was, but I was referring to the last crash which was even more senseless. The impatient driver that triggered it was running around 30th and probably 30th in the points too.
He had nothing meaningful to gain, but it happens so often.
That's the one. I don't think Mark could have gained enough ground on JJ to make a huge difference, but I hate to see a contender taken out in a senseless mishap.
Whatever hope he had is surely gone now. He did a good job of keeping it together in the post race interview but he had to be fuming inside.
