I came across a post that made me laugh pretty hard today. And I know of one other that did the same. I post these to lighten up a bit. If anybody else has any fell free to post. I'm gonna try and leave the posters anonymous. I posted here because my type of humor is probably more understandable here. The first is from one conway to another.

The thread title is a little misleading, but it gets attention.

You all know that in the 2nd quarter we made some 39 million which were mostly from the paycuts. Now that's a lot of green that we needed in these dire economic times. But what about during good times? Would any of you voluntarily take a pay cut to get better equipment or other "perks" from the company? 39 million dollars can buy a whole lot.

Imagine using the money to buy top of the line trucks, fully loaded with power windows, radio/cdplayer/satelite radio/navigation/cb etc. All for what....$1.00 less an hour for a couple of quarters? It's like your paying for it yourself except sharing the cost with all other con-way employees. After the period you get your regular pay scale back.

I havent dont the math and how much a "top of the line" truck costs and how many trucks we have. I also havent thought of the beureaucracy part of this, if we would vote and how tractors would be chosen with driver input? The whole process and what's legally binding.

When you drive 4-500+ miles a night you get lots of time to think, and it's just something i thought about lastnight on my linerun.

yea? or nea?

positives and negatives?

doesnt have to be just trucks, but that's what i thought about because i was in very uncomfortable one lastnight.

also i wouldnt mind if the co. made a LITTLE profit off the program (kinda like a fee or something) but havent thought of a maximum or "cap" or what implications this would create, neither have i thought of any process or regulations. Again, just off the top of a bored line-driver's head.

i know there will be those who say they want to get paid as much as they possibly can and will not spend their own money to buy things for work since the co should supply it and they have better things to spend their money on.
Think about it this way: You spend your own money to build a radio and cb (con-way does not provide) to make your job a little easier and get through the day a bit better right? some of these guys spent a good chunk of change to get some good equipment like satelite radio/mp3-ipod/ ive even seen some subwoofers and amps hooked up. Just think of this on a larger scale, the tractors im guessing are in the 60-75k range.

Some positives i can think off the top of my head.

-Sense of ownership from the drivers, knowing you paid a little bit of it, certain things you wouldnt do and take care of it a little more. Also when you see other drivers mistreating equipment more likely will take the time and effort to let them know. knowing you paid for this badass tractor you get a sense of pride/ownership and i guarantee youll see more drivers dusting/wiping off and making shure everything is in tip top shape. leads to less maintainance cost i guess.

-good in the public eye, brand new shiny tractors fully loaded. I dont need to explain what customers and potential customers and the general public will think when they see a brand spanking new top of the line truck vs seeing a con-way driver clunking down the road in a clunker that's about to fall apart.

-make your job a whole lot easier, air ride is a world of difference, satellite radio, can listen to traffic and weather updates no signal lost or signal range, cb radio or nextel type services so maybe all con-way drivers can somehow connect with one another, maybe navigation system that tells you miles to your destination, est minutes left, alternate routes when freeways are closed or traffic or accident. power plug to charge your cellphone etc etc...

-HORSEPOWER!! my favorite, yeah baby, so when were climbing a 7% grade were not left in the dust by fedex/saia/ups/usf and almost everyone else. chugging up the hill at 25mph and being too slow for the slow lane and blocking up everyone (because even the slow trucks are trying to pass you in the fast lane, slowing down the fast trucks) is not fun.

yea or nea? thoughts? opinions? im totally retarted for thinking about this? "

I thought this was pretty funny too:

"You love New Penn more than life itself? You my friend are a truly sick unit!"

Maybe you have to work at New Penn to understand. Because some people truly ARE sick units.

Hi-- I own a piece of land in a sleepy town just off a major highway, and one of the options available to me is to divide it into 0.75-acre lots specifically for truckers to have a home and lots of space where they can park their rigs. I can sell the lots by themselves, or with the houses built. It's a major process so I am trying to do as much research as possible, but I'm not having much luck yet.

Does anyone here live on a lot like this, or know of truckers who do? What do you guys think of such an idea?"

And another with some New Jersey straightforwardness: "why don't you gear your enterprise to people who actually have money? "

Well,ya just made me laugh again. Why are you following me around? Are you some kind of stalker? Or won't anybody else talk to you? Maybe somebody sees it and they get a laugh.
Maybe they don't. They all made me laugh, but sometimes they might be funnier seen in the middle of the seriousness of the thread they're in. The New Penn comment was in the middle of one of the serious concession vote threads...And it gave me a break from the headaches. And why are you telling them guys in that other thread that you're a teamster? I have serious doubts.
