Speaking from experience, it is a good idea to get with your shop steward on this type of issue.
I would estimate that 95% of these types of problems are either misunderstandings or someone just having a crappy day. Having your steward listen to both sides and have a non partisan view, helps out bunches.
This time of the year temperatures and tempers seem to be high, and go hand in hand. It's good to have someone to try and find some middle ground without having a super filling out paperwork to protect someone and the company from "workplace violence". These are serious issues, but you can bet that the company will make it bigger if one of the parties isn't a model employee.
