Thanks for posting that Central States Pension Questions and Answers from March 2003 Mikey! I remember those 2 "independent actuarial studies" that were announced back in the fall of 2002! If I recall we never did hear the outcome of these studies. I asked several times at my Local meeting, and our officials said they never heard anything either! I realize the IBT doesn't control the Central States Fund, but I still would like to see the IBT officials, our Local officials, or even the FUND ITSELF announce that Multi-Employer pensions are GOOD, GOOD FOR THE PARTICIPANTS, AND GOOD FOR OUR UNION! It seems like the members are always back-pedaling and trying to make excuses for why we have good pension plans!
I know other other industries like rubber, steel, automotive, etc...are all taking a clobbering when it comes to benefits like Pensions and Health and Welfare...but I'd like to see us (the Teamsters) draw a line in the sand, and say "NO WAY" to any threats on our Pensions! Our employers can't outsource our jobs to China like they can in rubber, steel, or automotive, and with the exception of Mexican drivers, our freight and parcel jobs are here to stay for decades to come! Let's all fight to keep these freight and parcel job wages and benefits the standard for the industry! Let's stay UNITED AND FIGHT THE POWER!
