John McCain, like most Republicans, opposes adding penalties to enforce widely abused labor laws established 71 years ago. McCain opposes labor reform in the guise of opposing changes to the technical methods of electing employee representation. The only bill to add penalties for violations of current labor law, the Employee Free Choice Act which already passed the House, McCain calls undemocratic and misleading.
