I like your tag line "Seniority Over Solidarity." That is honestly what the union is about.

2 things here....many of us recall the financial mess the "Reformer" Carey had us in during the 90's....TDU conveniently seems to have forgotten that little point....
I wonder why.....

These Officials making these salaries probably deserve more for having to put up with the new generation of whiners we have in the Union now who wouldn't be happy no matter what.........

What financial mess? Are you talking about the strike fund? The same fund the old gaurd rasied the amount the members received with out a way to fund it? I am not TDU but Carey changed the union for the members no longer does it take 75 percent no votes to vote a bad contract down with an automatic strike vote... Doesn't matter, in the long run JR got a bad contract thru, soon the defined pension teamsters will be on the outs, tough luck for any one who towed the line! thank you JR

No, I'm not talking about the strike fund. I'm talking about the general shape of the finances under Carey/TDU. The International was going broke even with all of the 'alleged' savings from breaking up the Conferences and putting about 65 Locals (all of which weren't Carey supporters) into Trusteeship. What a coincidence!

One of the issues we face today in regards to pensions actually was born in the Carey years......substantial gains in pension without the funding to make them feasible. Not many people cared as long as it sounded like a good idea at the time. We're seeing what the results are now, some 15 years later. Combine that with the depleted numbers in contributions overall (there were about 200,000 NMFA members in 1994) and now we have issues which most find it convenient to blame on Hoffa. And I'm not a Hoffa booster per se, I just can't vote for a TDU candidate after seeing the lies and deceit of the 90's including, but not limited to, the looting of International funds by the Carey campaign. Yeah man, that's reform at it's finest!

Seems to me the real fat is at the corporate level.
If our people weren't making a salary attractive enough to work for us, they would all be looking for corporate positions.....and then, where would that leave us. There has to be some sort of competitive compensation package to keep people working for our behalf.

In addition to this, I take everything from TDU, with a grain of salt. After all, don't they have their own political agenda?
All you Brothers out there who keep talking about how much the corporate types make, is it obscene, positively.

But your losing what is being said.

We, unless we have lots of stock, have nothing to say as far as the who and the how much in corporate America.

What we do have control of however is our leadership/s.

We elect them on a regular basis, and when they don't perform correctly we can get rid of them.

And please don't give me that bull***t whine,

" We don't want to elect someone new, what about the learning curve"

All we need is someone with,

HEART, VISION and INTEGRITY,

and the willingness to,

"DO THE RIGHT THING, EVEN WHEN NOBODY IS LOOKING"

Were you born knowing how to drive your truck, or anything else, no you weren't.

But you applied yourself and you learned how and made a careerer out of it. and I am going to guess you are exceptional at it, yes?

So please stop the comparison of Teamster officials and corporate types they aren't relative to the conversation.
