yeah i definetly agree the tier system has to go
it undermines hiring new guys in two ways
1- recycled teamsters get screwed
2- new guys to the industry look for the $ amount and go to the non-unions as their starting pay is higher

if the national negotiating team gives in to this they are nuts
there really is no reason for us to give in to these types of concessions
first off, all the unionized companies are making record profits, granted it may be one of their largest costs but they can afford it:

absolutely i agree
not only are dock guys working forced ot but us p&d guys also
at abf ( my terminal) we haven't walked anyone in quite a while and we are all working to the limit as far as HOS is concerned so the abuse is not actually here but it is easy to see how it can be abused

maybe the answer might be a trigger effect to have to bring back men on layoff and possibly add a man to the seniority list when the levels get too excessive

cartage to non union carriers seems to be a problem in my area ny/nj
it is excessive so possibly a trigger to hire more men should be in place in this problematic area

This will hopefully cut back on forced overtime, it will create more jobs and also add more money to the H&W and pension funds.

That would be number 1 on my wish list
mine too
a lot of pension funds are experiencing some sort of crisis with few exceptions
most funds have more guys on retirement than working
the only solution i can see is to
1- an influx of fresh faces (new members) which from what i see there is a driver shortage which the tier system by the way helps to fuel

or
2- like you say, have contributions made for ot hours or at the very least the first 10 hours of ot:Sign-Cow:

happy birthday mikeeeeeeeeeeeeee oh oh that was last month!

i disagree , not all but i could see some of it go directly into h&w
again these companies are making high profits and i think we should share in that

they got major concessions last time as from what i was told the tier system continuing in its present form was tied directly to our raises
the companies claimed they saved allot from that
they also got the premium freight concession
why did they take so long to implement it?
from what i see they will really increase tonnage and revenue by doing it
abf is the only one that is doing it as of now
(i believe)and it just started

roadway and yellow can't iron out the sticking points at least with my local
abf claims that if they can get just 5% of the non union regional and next day freight they would grow the company by 70%
realistically though if they can get 2.5% that would be great as the freight they anticipate will come off of non union trucks
