I cant disagree with you at all. The freight industry is in flux and with the genearally low freight levels since fall of 07' it hard to figure out were and when something major is going to occur.

I often wish I had stayed out of the general freight business, and stayed on with one of two companies where all I did was delivery work to thier stores in a 48 ft liftgate trailer with maybe some pickups for return to the warehouse, but neither of these jobs were Union and I enjoy belonging to a Teamster local company.

Oh, well that was in the past and its 2008 now. Hopefully things will shake out for the better soon in this biz.

I am a Teamster Local 728 out of Atlanta, GA. I was laid off back in mid-July 08, I have tried to get on with Yellow and Roadway because they offered all 728 Teamsters who were laid-off jobs. I was told by YRC coporate human resources that I could not be hired because of a felony from back in 1989. But I was hired by Holland, I work part-time at ABF and worked for SAIA for ten years before joining Teamsters. I also passed the background check for the Postal Service. So I just feel that YRC is playing games and slowly cutting the fat. Because there are some of the other laid-off guys without felonies that are still being jerked around. So do the math fellows YRC is full of it and they know it. They have only hired a few guys so far to work from lay-off status.

If you have the chance to get out then get out.I have too very close friends that got hosed by YRC and if I was there and had a chance to get out then I'd say see ya!! Good luck to you and your family.

i would get out if i had a family but since am single and fresh to the game am riding the wave. thinks don't look good for those of us that are at the bottom of the list specially now that roadway and yellow are merging.
