Drive Contributions or NOT
From another truck board by "Quicksilver"
Send the International a message, one they will understand. $$$
Stop your contributions to DRIVE.
I advocate this for good reason, what has DRIVE really accomplished recently?
As a matter of fact, when was the last time you were informed of their actions?
DRIVE did not prevent NAFTA. And it was a democrat that gave it to us.
I am not slamming the Dem's here , just saying
What about this recent discussion with Aribe from Columbia?
What about CAFTA?
How about Bush continuing to let unsafe Mexican trucks across the border, What has DRIVE done about that.
What about the highway from Mexico to Canada the Bush people want to build?
What about all the jobs that have left the country.
Has the employee free choice act passed yet, what part has DRIVE played in that to get it passed.
It seems to me reading things across all the trucking boards that most everybody is pi**ed off around the country in organized labor.
The NMFA that many are saying they were lied to about.
The blatant commandeering of Chicago 705's negotiations under the guise of protecting 55,000 Teamsters at Yellow, Roadway, Holland.
And NO the area of agreement/scope of work was not intended to undermine any other local.
The conversation about the 150 mile radius stated,
"except where other contracts or agreements exist and are in place"
(Probably not the exact language but close enough)
We organize Overnite but they aren't in freight per se, they are on a "White Paper" contract, they are not in our H&W plans nor wholly in our pension plan either. The contract could have been a whole lot better too.
But "Hey" we got our foot in the door. "didn't we"
Hoffa gets the dues though, so we can give him an approx $77,000.00 pay raise this year, and pay for his condo in Washington and all we can get is UNDER 1%, $2.20 over five years.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE
Was it actually done for that reason or was it that Hoffa did not to look bad should Chicago have gotten anything he didn't.
I don't know but what I do know is that every Teamster in this country has been undermined by our leaderships, both locally as well as nationally
So maybe we can prod the leadership in Washington by letting them know we are mad by witholding our money.
Now I am not talking about permanently stopping the contributions, just for some length of time, maybe 6 mos, maybe longer, depends on peoples thoughts about it
There are 1.2 or 1.4 million Teamsters. Just think of the impact the membership can exert.
Use this example, 10,000 people giving $1 dollar a week = $10,00.00 x 4 wks (a month) = $40,000.00 a month x 12 = $ 480,000.00
A half of a million dollars a year.
Think that that will get their attention, you bet cha
What an easy, pain free way to send a message to the leadership.
Yes I know it is important to have a lobbying effort to further our agendas on Unionism. Thats why I'm saying we don't have to stop it permanently, just long enough to make sure that the message gets through to them.
We do have the power of our numbers, and if we learn to harness that power we can accomplish many positive things.
All those things you and your friends have talked about for so long, you know what I mean, you've said it a thousand times,
" If I was running this union this is what I would do"
Here is your chance to exercise your potential for change, to have an effect on your life.
Do not pass this chance up.
At least give it some serious consideration. Work for positive change.
Hey, something to do with change, isn't that what we call our new, after AFL-CIO, group?
