And I think all of you have hit right on the nail head, the missing " magic". It is still here , just not in the numbers it used to be. Spread it! wear your Teamsters shirts, your local shirts. If you dont have one , get one. If you cant, and have to wear your uniform shirt, ok , wear it but wear your union pin on your shirt. They even have teamster license plates in my state( missouri) I will order mine next week. Put the word out guys ! " Teamsters - the strongest and proudest union in the world ! "

Even in the early days a core group of hard core guys carried the rest. But by and large we were more united than we are now. For a large part of my terminal its just a paycheck, nothing more. Alot of guys came here after years OTR and to them this is just a high paying OTR job. Hell one guy I ran teams with even was a **** in a Teamster railyard strike. and his uncle was a Teamster. It just blows my mind that now he can come to Yellow and enjoy the benefits of being a Teamster. It's good to hear that there are other guys out there that feel like I do.

I think there are many more out there too Fta, we just need to wake them up. Let them know they are not alone. It may take some time to get back what we had but if we try and try hard it will be again. Resitance is worn down by persitance. There will always be a few paycheck grabbers slip thru the crack. But they will never be strong in numbers and they will never be proud because grabbing a paycheck is nothing to be proud of. The real brothers know who they are and they know why they are in it. The brotherhood !

Thumbs up "teamster Thursdays"

TC, great thread here as its a great feeling when you have the unity of our brothers and sisters. Proud to be a Teamster and I am not arrogrant to other people about it but I will say I am confidant about who I am.

Two things quick to point out is the younger generation coming in needs to be more actively involved and understand not to take for granted what they have today was earned and not given.

Here in VA in this RTW state we designated a day as "TEAMSTER THURSDAYS" that everyone wears their Teamster t-shirts to represent the brotherhood & unityat Roadway. It looks good when you had two drivers at a customer making a p/u and people were curious to ask about what a Teamster is.

It got so noticed down here that our brothers at Yellow & ABF joined in on the "TEAMSTER THURSDAYS" AND IT IS A GOOD NO GREAT FEELING SEEING US OUT THERE IN NUMBERS DOING OUR JOBS MOVING FREIGHT. Plus while out there on the street delivering freight, getting a from other members in the Teamsters from other crafts.

This is a really good thread, one of the best I`ve seen on here,if not the best,I to am a second generation Teamster, possibaly third,I know my grandfather worked the docks in Pittsburgh back in the 1900`s so I will assume he was a union member of some kind. I could go on all day about the benifits of being a member of this great organization but you guys have said it all.One thing I will mention is that I attended a meeting last week and there was only three guys from Yellow and a trustee who works for Yellow, noone from Roadway,ABF Holland,or UPS.I think we may have had 25 or 30 guys show up at most out of a 2,300 member local,so what`s that tell us? I understand that the way we are required to work that we all can not attend the meetings ,but how many guys just don`t give a crapp, they take the job for granted, and don`t understand what "brotherhood" is all about. We need to go back to the days when union meetings were "standing room only" and we ran the union .Today the officals have to make the decisions on our behalf because we are not there to tell them what we want at the meetings. As far as buying union made products,I do my best to purchase anything made by a union worker,It is a rule in my house not to shop at wal mart. But she don`t always abide by them rules,if you know what I mean. And finally most of the guys I meet that are Teamsters are just that, good brothers that I enjoy having the privlage to be associated with.Yes I`m proud to be a Teamster.

Louie and Bufbill more great posts ! I can say that without comments like all of our fellow brothers have posted in this thread it would be just another thread. But the deep feeling of brotherhood speaks out in this thread. All the brothers that have posted in this thread have made it what it is. Just like when we are all at work doing our jobs with pride. Boasting that your a Teamster to me is not arrogant by no means, I understand where your coming from. It is a pride that unless your a union brother , you cannot possibly understand how it feels. " Teamster Thursdays " ! Ok now thats a great idea, maybe we should spread the word around our great country and have all of our brothers in every part and every job from driver to dock, to warehouse worker, wear your shirts. Dont have one ? Call your local and have them get you one, or ask a brother where he got his. Thank you to all that have posted in this thread and hopefully we can keep this thread going for a long time and also hope that our new generation of brothers will get more actively involved. ! Teamsters Union - The strongest Union in the world ! " Lets spread the word ! Keep the brotherhood alive and strong !

I didnt mean to be negative. It's just that at CGB we run teams , and sometimes you get stuck with guys like that sc@b and it kinda makes you wonder why they are at a union job in the first place.
