No disrespect intended
To the roadway respondents to the thread "will Roadway consider assigned sleeper trucks?" I had no intention of "union bashing" at all. I think unions were and are an important part of our job security as american workers. My only point was this: Old business plans and antiquated notions of business as usual are causing many good companies to fall by the wayside due to new and improved business models which compete in the global marketplace. For a well established company to overlook a potential cost savings suggestion is not very smart. By assigning sleeper trucks the shareholders would not have to foot the bill for hotel expenses for 1. To pass on a portion of the cost of insurance premiums to the workers is going to happen sooner or later. The writing is on the wall. As employees and union memebers you must be aware that if a company cannot continue to satisfy their shareholders and owners with steady profits (in an increasingly competitive arena) then draconian measures are introduced such as layoffs, and closing "unprofitable" lanes. The airline industries are struggling with this as is the American auto companies. I would like to see better pay and benefits for all of us but we must balance that with the knowledge owners demand a consistent return on their investments.
