I too worked non-union for awhile before I woke up. Let's just put it this way, I work as a casual, 20 to 30 hours a week and have a full medical package. I also have a retirement vesting with 500 hour a year. I work when they absolutely need me.

I for one vote UNION YES and would get out of trucking before I was as miserable at a job as some of you seem to be.

I am happy for you.
I love happy people.
Merry Christmas..

Why should i give my money to fund that has been decreasing over the yrs and loosing members. That organization screwed up when they let o-nite hang out for months then poof they were gone. The only way to be with them is thru a but out of your co.. It worked out for O-nite now but lets wait until all is signed. there are still some of those workers with a bad taste in there mouth still. IF YOU WANT THAT THEN GO WORK FOR IT STL44

First of all, you don't give your money to any "fund". The government, dropped the ball on Overnite, by not enforcing the Court order to negotiate. There is a statutory limitation in which the organizing party can push the issue. That time ran out much to the chagrin of the UP management, with the full support of the politicians.

Your Union dues are a tax deductible contribution to the organization that negotiates your professional contract. As well as a host of other functions, too numerous to mention. All of this costs money, nobody can work for free. That is what your DUES money provides. The "fund" contributions are made by the company. The company trustees are just as much responsible for the "fund" as the employees trustees. If it is underfunded, both parties are responsible. Since government oversight came into play, I seriously doubt that there is any deliberate wrong doings with the "fund".

Good Luck to you.

Mikey

Vote Union.

stldude44, I have to agree with you 100%. Unfortunately that is exactly what the future holds for the LTL trucking industry because those working for substandard companies never stuck together & demanded parity with the union jobs....Since deregulation took away the level playing field, LTL trucking has been on a backward slide. Instead of the unions companies raising the bar, it is now the non union companies that are lowering the bar.....Some non union workers may be laughing, but IMO its a hollow laugh. They may not want to admit it, but deep down inside they must realize what is really happening.
