Theteamsters have failed in every attempt to organize. Their last 3 strikes were a complete disaster and this year they settled based on some non union companies whispering the idea of a strike. Customers will flock away from a union carrier with just the hint of a strike. However they will stick by a non union company undergoing a "job action" the way Overnite did. Customers supported Overnite as much as they could, enough to kill the organization threat. It is the customers that control companies today not the teamsters.

I have said it many times here, going union in LTL is certain death to a company. No carriers has survived. The last 2 remaining companies are in limbo. It does not look good for either one.

The teamsters need to look for another market to play in. It is over in LTL and TL for them. The customers do not want to conduct business with union carriers.
YRC isn't doing near as bad as you would hope. ABF is doing alright. And UPSF will do just fine. And there are tens of thousands of customers who want to conduct business with these carriers every day. And I see you have outstanding rep points, so I'm sure going to believe what you say.

So in keeping with my own principles I went out and found a job with another company,(FEDEX), and have been completely satisfied with my pay and benefits and also how I am treated by Mgmt. I don,'t pretend to speak for any one else in this company but I hope to stay here for a long time. If for some reason the company does go union I will probably stay here unless working conditions deteriorate at which time I will go find another job. I do think that a union only creates an "us" against "them" attitude within a company that is nurtured by the union in order to keep their members from ever believing that a company has a vested interest in keeping good employees. They only want their dues paying constituents to think that the company is out to get them so that the union can maintain some control over them. If the workers begin to believe that the company is good then why pay dues to a union? It is not in the best interest of a company to treat it's workers like $**t because it costs too much these days to hire and train new ones. There are many companies that don't get it and maybe should go union. I don't think FEDEX is one of them. We just happen to be the biggest target for the unions who desperately want more dues coming in because membership is down and they want to stay viable just like any large corporation.Because without your dues they might have to actually work for a living. Or go into politics. Have a nice day.
Well I don't know about that. Overnite had 85 successful years being non-union, Keeping the employees happy. UPSF had almost three years of slave labor. And in three months the employees have almost completely organized this company to date. Do you think UPS has treated us like kings?

I would add that most of us were anti-union before UPS bought the company. After three years of taking the daily shaft from UPS as they took more and more away from us and jacked our insurance up so that it ate up the yearly COLA's,UPS is the only ones to blame for the successful organization of UPSF. It was an easy sell to the employees. Now we have a contract. Our cola's won't be eaten by our ins. costs because they are FIXED for the life of the contract. Our rule book won't change at the whim of some snot nose looking to make a name for himself, and on top of that,we have a pension plan (a REAL pension) plus a 401k through the teamsters. As far as the us vs. them ...your bosses laugh behind your back every day because they push you as hard as they can,all in the name of "team FDXF",so they can make thier bonuses. How do I know, you ask ? I used to work for A/F. It was great until Sherridan sold it to FEDup.

Don't forget the huge wage increase over the term of the contract. Over twice as much as the NMFA

From what I've heard, in another SC in California, they (management) came in and told everyone that from now on they couldn't count on HR or upper manegment to handle local problems, that they were now on their own.

Like that would be any different than the way it now is.

I know for a fact that if they would back off the drivers to be perfect and get rid of some really, really bad managers, their union problems would pretty much end.

All we want is to be treated as adults and have every pen stroke analyzed and critiqued as if we were building parts for a space shuttle.

It's freight, the job isn't that complicated, quit making it complicated. In other words, Keep It Simple, Stupid!

We should wear buttons that say KISS!

I also know that if they got rid of our SCM, first we would rejoice, then tell the union, thanks, but no thanks.
