there's no gaurantee that upsf freight would even be in the teamsters pension plan. it all depends on what they negotiate for.

Haywould,
It's been mentioned here many times that the 14,000 or 15,000 UPSF employees would make up about 1% of the total number of Teamsters......not nearly enough to make or break the pension funds.
The pension fund claim is one of the things that the former Overnite used to preach to the workforce in the last organizing effort...one, I might add, that was started by workers who wanted to be treated better and be better compensated in both wages and benefits.
Most Companies will make all sorts of claims and threats to keep their workers non Union and thus under Mgmt. thumb.

Not to mention it's only one pension fund that ran into serious trouble, and even they are taking steps to fix their problems.

Out here in the West, our pension fund is doing quite well.

By the way, I hear Delta Airlines just filed in federal bankruptcy court to have their pilot's pension plan terminated and be taken over by the PBGC.

Makes me appreciate my multi-employer fund that much more...

Plus, and it's a big plus, It's not controlled by the company, they only have oversight, no way to get their grubby little hands on OUR money. There are enough examples out there now, Enron, Adelphia et al, that this should be a no brainer, but.........................
