What would you do with the millions of big rigs out there when you outlaw the use of oil ??? How about the billions of gas powered cars in the world ??? Send em all to the landfill ??? Since you have all the answers, why don't you come up with a wind powered big rig or a solar powered car that will climb mountain passes !!! Give us solutions, NOT anti-capitalist leftist propaganda...... |
Hmm last time I looked the congress was composed of both Democrats and Republicans. They have alternated being in power for the past 40 years as has the Office of the Presidency so laying the blame for no new refineries in the USA on Democrats is some of your "right wing" bs. I do not recall either candidate proposing a ban on oil. Nor did I. If we had the oil reserves you claim then WHY AREN'T WE USING THEM ALREADY??? Because they exist in hard to reach and inaccessible places in much smaller quantities. The price, equipment, and materials necessary to extract the oil is "cost prohibitive."
The oil from shale concept is also in its beginning stages and again COST PROHIBITIVE.
This country uses MORE oil than any other country in the world. With China and India becoming industrial and manufacturing powerhouses they will consume more and more oil from the global suppliers. Supply and demand will make oil a more valuable commodity. Guess where our oil companies will be selling their products in the event they do get to drill for more oil and are able to get it out of the ground.... To the highest bidder of course! And I bet you it WON'T be here in the USA. We already are exporting diesel and bio diesel for profit.
Now back to the original topic; In Obamas case he has stated additional drilling would be considered and part of a comprehensive energy strategy.
The oil companies have millions of acres of land already under lease. They do not seem to be in a big hurry to exploit those areas. What makes you think the oil companies will "snap to" and start drilling on the ocs(outer continental shelf)? To oil companies it is about profits, pure and simple. If they do not think it is cost effective to drill off shore they won't do it. If they do drill and actually increases the supply of oil here in this country it will reduce the cost to the public and ALSO REDUCE the margin of profit for said oil companies. Sounds counter intuitive to me. Basic supply and demand my friend. Restrict the supply and you can charge more for it. Thats CAPITALISM. So go ahead sign your petition. Your just another consumer that will pay what the big oil companies demand no matter who wins in November.
Now heres a thought; How about we take a page out of Hugo Chavez' playbook. How about we nationalize our natural resources? Get rid of the greedy oil companies and their outrageously inflated profits? Then we can give all Americans CHEAP GAS!
