They have no clue they are doing this this company.
Oh yeah--Remember ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. |
Typical corporate answer.....Reed's Response---"BRING IT ON WE ARE READY, You want to go to war. We are ready". Whenever you hear about a war between union and nonunion, just come back to this one simple quote, and realize where it comes from. It's not a war between the company and the union, it's a war between the company and the employees. Notice he says "YOU" want to go to war? He is directing that statement at the employees, not the union.
When they tell you that "you will lose your freedom under the union umbrella", it is a actually a twist on the situation. You have no freedoms or choices in a nonunion environment. As an
at will employee you are just that....
at will , to the doings of corporate. It's either take it or leave it. Nothing is set in stone (or paper, as in a contract).
The freedoms that will be lost are the one's that belong to the company.
They can't change rules on a whim.
They can't work and pay you, for less than 8 hours a day.
They can't terminate or discipline you at the drop of a hat.
They can't over run your seniority.
They can't change the pension (if available) because they feel like it.
Unionized companies and the union have come a long way since the "old days". Both sides have become more flexible. Maybe the reason many Teamsters feel sold out by the last contract. The truth is we needed to bend a little to prevent our sector from breaking. Nonunion companies don't want to be flexible in the sense of the way they do business. They want to be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and not have to follow pre-established guidelines and work rules, that the union wants them to agree to. The union is not an our way or the highway type of arrangement, but it is exactly what the nonunion companies have and exactly what they want to keep. In short the nonunion companies want to have their cake and eat it too. So next time you hear....."You want to go to war, just remember, you (the employees) are their enemy, not the union.
