It seems to me that having Joe Lunchbucket manage his own retirement, especially his private social security account doesn't sound like a real good idea these days, does it? Gov't. got their 700 billion, stock market still tanks, Dow at 9856 at this time. Article I have from 99 celebrates Dow hitting 10,000. Most of the people who are working, are working 60, 70 hours a week, how are they going to find the time to manage, let alone learn how to manage their own accounts. It just isn't that hard.
As far as privatizing social security, I cannot think of one government controlled entity that would not be more accountable and streamlined as a private entity. Since this is a trucking website, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Postal Service advertising no fuel surcharge. Of course they do not charge one. It is a typical government agency that has no financial accountability.
