I don't look at it as a union/non union issue. I think it has more to do with being in the right place at the right time.

A bigger terminal will more than likely have a higher turnover rate than a smaller terminal. This would lead to increased hiring there and people moving up in seniority faster.

CF'er right again.

This is key! I am sure this varies a little but there is no casual status for road drivers only casual for dock and city.

12,
That's true for the Central Region. I'm not sure about the East or West, but the South has road casuals.....and lots of them. Many times we are tipped off that one is headed to STL before he even arrives and we end up getting a guy paid for a full round to MEM, NSH or ATL. Road casuals from other Regions are not to come into the Central at all.

I know plenty of what I speak. I have lived it and seen it, not just philosophized about it. Almost 2.5 decades of my life with the same company, same union. No union has ever benefited form a partnership with the company in the long run. Partnerships with management defeats the very purpose for forming a union in the first place. If management were to put human beings above profit, there would be no need for unions. But.........they don't! Hence, unions. And therefore, the necessity of remaining outside of the "Partnership with management" union busting tool.

7thson is making a good point if you hear the message. On the surface "patnership" looks like a harmless word and really it is. It's the actions of the players involved that make it fearfull. Fellows I admit it!!! I'm scared to death.

Thanks Wolf, for saying it more simply than I did. What we are looking at here is a subtle form of union busting, and there is much to be scared of. Nothing happens at Roadway by chance.
