I want to address the All freight Teamsters thread.
I just read this thread on the union forum.
Now heres my opinion as a former 20 yr. Temster.
First the UPS stike a few years ago was over UPS wanting to break away from paying into the Teamsters pension fund.
Their Teamster member employees wouldn't hear of it,and walked out.
Next the union meeting I attended just after the card check was anounced at the convention.
My local rep.'s told us we couldn't get into the NMFA.
That we would get a good contract, but we couldn't get NMFA.
Now when I was a Teamster back between 1966,and 1986,before I had to give up my union card to go non-union for lack of union work available, because so many companies were closing after deregulation.
I remember a union meeting I attended that the Teamster rep.s said they'd like to get rid of the truckers, because they were a bunch of whinners.
Now in this day of the Teamsters they have so many other types of buisness under them.
Trucking has become a very small part.
I say when the freight contract comes up next year.
With Yellow,ABF,And a very few smallier companies.
UPS Freight will be on the fringe with a lesser contract.
I predict that the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will sell freight down the river.
Maybe after all of these years the IBT will get rid of freight, and live happily ever after with the other union companies they have in their organization.
UPS,and New England Motor freight will be stand alone companies, its anyones guess what Yellow, and ABF will be?
Now again this maybe just my take on this as an old freight hauler?
