You've had 2 LTL jobs now and maybe don't know that the Union Companies don't operate the same way as your employers do. Our road drivers don't necessarily wait much.....sometimes not at all. You know only about Companies that scramble to make next day deliveries, not longhaul....it's a whole different animal. If you knew the difference you'd see why the Companies have never even asked that we work the dock if we're waiting.
The Companies don't want one job classification. It would mean a much worse claim ratio, like you guys have, when road drivers slam their return freight on trailers to make their cut time to get back home in 14 hours....(without a luch break, I might add)....one only needs to look at the Conway Forum to see the problems. There's nothing wrong with being young, but at your age anybody has alot to learn.
Premium Service Employees are the Teamsters who do the type of work that the shorthaul guys do. Yellow and ABF have them for next day service and both are expanding their PSE operations soon. So, the flexibility you say we don't have is right there in Article 18. Look for it to grow as we get more and more next day freight.
Also, Yellow and Roadway both operate at about 93.5 or so and ABF is even lower than that. I understand that Holland has had some expansion problems that has added to their OR, but before that they were in the middle to high 80's.

im outa my league on this forum because im a conway employee. BUT if it wanst for the teamsters we wouldnt be making this kind of cash. union or not an employee SHOULD get paid for the job from the time he clocks in to the time he clocks out. especially anything that pertains to the job description i.e. fueling, pretrip, or shop time(which are all necessary for the job function) no fuelie no delivery. no fuelie no line haul. get paid for what you do. not getting paid to fuel sounds like "i love the company that LETS me work for them so ill give em some of my PERSONAL time. sorry if it sounds harsh but its reality.
I am confused here PW which side of the fence do you actually stand on? When Conway calls you to work at night and your hooks aren't done you do not get paid to wait unless of course you go do another job. I know when I was at Conway we never worked the dock before going out on a run so you waited for free. I also know that I worked like a dog when I was at Conway, work 14/16 hours and they are calling you at home after 6 or 7 hours to tell you to come in at whatever time. I can remember being called to come in at 6:30pm starting at 7pm getting back to the terminal between 9am/10:30am and by time you put your trailers away arrived yourself and all the other BS they require you to do it was 10am/11am by time you were going home and at 6pm the phone is ringing. Conway might pay good but you dont log everything you do or you would be running 3 shorts a week, they work people like dogs and get every ounce of 70 hours they can out of you. Oh I might add that they also like to call in new hires and after working 2 hours send them home, work him in the city one day and make him run nights the next day and back and forth. This happens all the time at Conway now maybe you could explain to us what "quality of life" is but then again maybe you cant because you are busy "living the dream" what a joke!

Very good Brutus..... Union verses Non-Union has nothing to do with working for free.
