I guess the point I'm trying to make is are all the canidates, just knowledgeable about the trucking division of the union,or are they well informed on the rest, like dairyworkers, school bus drivers, janitors, grounds workers, also hospitals, and anyother industry that has Teamster representation.
Its a tall order to be well versed in all of these other industries outside of trucking to be a good leader.
I know Leedham is for the truckers, but would the others being union members have confidence in him,to have him lead them as well as trucking?
Sorry I sometimes have a hard time of expressing my thoughts.
I know what I want to say,or ask,but it doesn't come out right.

I know what I want to say,or ask,but it doesn't come out right. | APO that was a fair enough question.Personally I was a road steward for a few years and I went from being a blind follower to a question asker only to be pushed aside because the higher ups don't want you to question their decisions.Don't get me wrong I still believe the Teamster way of trucking is the only way if you want a future after retirement but there are a lot of things that need straightned out.As far as the Union leader ( Hoffa or whoever) they never get personally involved unless they can get good publicity out of it.They have their Locals Presidents and their Business agents who provide all the hard work of negotiating. The Union has people that just work out the contracts.Virtue was probably one of the best freight negotiators that the union has but he too was a Hoffa follower..It seems he had a change of heart where Hoffa is concerned but then again it could be a ploy just to split the vote so Hoffa wins. We will see. |

Its only Virtue / Dileo running in the east against the Hoffa slate.

Where J.Hoffa jr. resides over many divisions of the IBT. | Hey Apo...I usually stay out of the politics on the boards, but I think this may help you with your question. Leedham was a part of the Carey admin that nearly broke the Teamsters union. He was the Warehouse Division president during the Carey years. Our local was trying to organize a warehouse and got NO help from Leedham or Carey because RV Durham was the president of our local and that made him a adversary of theirs. TDU got Carey elected and they want to get Leedham elected, now. Leedham is far from a freight guy.......some people seem to forget the 90's. It's history, but still important. DS.

Thanks for clearing this topic up for me Docksteward.
This makes me feel really out of touch with the Teamsters I was a member of for 20 years, which is now going on 21 years ago.
Time sure flys by when your having fun hauling freight, and playing in traffic.
It seems like the older you get time goes by all the more quicker, even though everyday still takes 24 hours to pass.
Thank you to everyone for all your comments to help out this old gearjammer to come up to the present.
