Hello Mr. fr8rookie, Well the reason I went to work for FedEx is because FedEx Corp bought Watkins Motor Lines. Watkins at the time was what best fit for me and my family at the time even though they were non-union. One of the reasons I would like to see them organize is so that I can continue adding to the 9 good years I currently have with the Teamsters. I dont need to get into all the other details and benefits because I am sure you have read them all already 100 times so I will spare the readers this time around.

There are alot of things that non-unions guys are missing out on if they would just take the time to educate themselves about the union and had a chance to see what it is all about they just might have a different opinion.

Thanks, I was at WML until a week before the buyout, our terminal had lost alot of business before the buyout became public and my name was near the bottom so I was layed off, no hard feeling there.
Never been a teamster, really never gave it much thought but I have found when asking question about the teamsters on hear it gets kind of nasty if you ask hard questions.
Thank you again hope it works out for you and your family.

No problem at all and if you have questions about the union you can always search the union sections of these forums and if you do not find what you're looking for just ask and someone will help you out I am sure.

Sorry to hear about the layoff I hope you have found work and are doing well. Here are a couple of links you might find of interest. These may also help answer some questions you may have.

it always starts with one terminal. unless every terminal in massachusetts is going to vote on the same day, its gonna start with one terminal.

never said it was. i said chicagoland drivers tried to do it, not new england states drivers

i know it wasnt, but the large companies nowdays always have an ace up their sleeve. fedex bought watkins to directly focus fedex freight on next day and 2-day freight. watkins is to handle the extended lane service.

now, i didnt respond to your post to get you all riled up and such. i hope you guys create better lives for yourselves whatever it takes. i was just stating the possibilities and the what-ifs. if and when the votes pass.

Paul it's not just one terminal there are locations on the west that are organizing as well. They have had organizing drives all over the US for FedEx Ground with overwhelming responses. I guess that means we better gear up to start delivering small packages eh Paul because they are going to close them down now and give small ground packages to who? Well it wont be Express because they are having organizing drives as well with great results. You dont hear alot about these things because things like this do not happen over night it takes time and alot of work. At some point in time Paul based on your theory the company will eventually run out of places to divert freight to so then what? I am surprised they havent bought us hellicopters yet since the pilots are union and made us deliver that freight. Paul FedEx would not close down an operation just because of the union. They make to much money to do this and it would serve no purpose. You must think unions cripple companies or something I am not sure why you feel the way you do but that's your opinion. I guess you have sat in on 1 to many meetings from the company listening to their crap and reading all their propaganda. I hope if the company you work for ever becomes union that you will quit because I wouldn't want to see you suffer making union wage and have all the benefits. I know you're going to say you make union wages but believe me there is much more to the union other than hourly wages that you will never see.

Didn't FXF always focus on the regional market? Will FXF still do longhaul and how will that work with FXNL? Will the 2 companies compete for regional/longhaul business and will they share rates? Will the discounts be the same for both companies? Will base rates be the same? I dont know all the answers so I figure someone like yourself would be able to help me understand more things about FedEx.

Oh about those chicago drivers I am curious what happen to them?

as far as the chicago drivers went, they were either fired, or relocated. and since this site is called truckingboards i figued you were talking about fedex freight. not fedex ground. i didnt read that anywhere in your posts except for the last one. i may be clueless on this part, but arent fedex ground drivers, the packege handlers o/ops??? how do you organize a bunch of o/ops? i was under the assumption that the only hourly employees fedex had were fedex freight and national employees.
