Here is a quote from the third article:
Safety in the trucking industry has greatly improved while operating under the current hours-of-service rules,” said ATA president and CEO Bill Graves. “Over the past five years we’ve seen a strong decline in truck-involved crashes on our nation’s highways.”
In fact, truck-involved fatalities in US roads have gone down 19% since the new rules took effect in 2004 and the number of injuries has decreased 13%, ATA points out. Meanwhile, the volume of heavy trucks on US roads surged during the same period.
So, that shoots that therory down. I like KD would like to know why the Union thinks the rule needs to be changed, if you only want to run 10 then run 10, but leave the rule alone.....
Under the old rule we were asked to run 10 take off 8 and run ten more until you ran out of hours and they want to call the 34 hr reset as working more hrs...Well it may be overall, but I am more rested now then I ever was under the old rule.
