Default Why doesn't the Union stay the Hell out of it..

By popular demand I'm throwing this out for everyone to have a shot at....

What does the union have against the 11 hour rule and 34 hr reset.....If this comes to pass it is going to hurt many of us with long runs...

It has never been negotiated in to the NMFA Union contract or any other Teamster contract that I know of so it is not recognized by the Teamster Union drivers anyway. The Union represents the Union drivers and their own Union interest's just as the ATA represents the owners and management of most major trucking company's. The ATA wants drivers to drive more hours and the Teamsters want the drivers to drive less hours. The Union wants less required driving hours and more drivers, the ATA wants more required driving hours and less drivers. That's my understanding about this issue sir.

Nothing wrong or illegal about that. But why are they trying to pressure everybody else to run shorter?
IMO the log rules right now are the best they've ever been.
If you guys want to stop at 10 that's your business, but stop trying to change the deal for everybody else.
There's many that like it the way it is.

Maybe it has something to do with safety, (driver fatigue) and the many, many innocent people and drivers that get killed every year from truckers that have been driving to many hours. Trucking/transportation did not make the top ten most dangerous jobs (fatalities) for nothing.

Here is a quote from the third article:

Safety in the trucking industry has greatly improved while operating under the current hours-of-service rules,” said ATA president and CEO Bill Graves. “Over the past five years we’ve seen a strong decline in truck-involved crashes on our nation’s highways.”

In fact, truck-involved fatalities in US roads have gone down 19% since the new rules took effect in 2004 and the number of injuries has decreased 13%, ATA points out. Meanwhile, the volume of heavy trucks on US roads surged during the same period.

So, that shoots that therory down. I like KD would like to know why the Union thinks the rule needs to be changed, if you only want to run 10 then run 10, but leave the rule alone.....
Under the old rule we were asked to run 10 take off 8 and run ten more until you ran out of hours and they want to call the 34 hr reset as working more hrs...Well it may be overall, but I am more rested now then I ever was under the old rule.

You quoting from 1980's and 1990's figures..What are they now??Besides ya'll ran under the rules we did..10 driving--8 off,did you not..

On your list a Fisherman is at number three...Truck Driver number 9..Should the fisherman be required to log??He has mates on board..Docking procedures to attend to..But I suppose that's not the same..Are you sure you are not an Ohio state trooper?
