Run Changes and Layoffs I noticed the posting on the old server about the Charlotte layoffs did not make it over to the new server.
It said there were 40 layoffs, 10 each of p&d, dock, linehaul and office. Was waiting to see if there would be more talk about it, mainly someone debating the truth of it. It was also posted on another board and there too it has not been disputed. Guess it's true. Usually someone would be right on it to negate it's truth.
Heard out in the northwest they have done a few layoffs, some run cancellations daily and some runs totally cut. The drivers with run cuts have been put on bottom of extra board. One TM almost got fired for allowing a re-bid after a driver had his run cut, thus Richmond making up rules daily. Forget your employee manual (as we all know anyway). Supposedly, with Estes, if you lose your run, you lose your seniority status on runs. Well, what the hell is seniority there for! Your seniority is no good if you don't get to bid a run after yours is canceled.
Also read about a DHL/Estes announcement this week that didn't happen. I guess no one was surprised, but sure sounded good huh?
Supposedly Averitt has taken the Home Depot in the south. Mostly due to our not taking collect anymore, better service and then of course HD's DC's are gearing up more and more as time goes by. From what everyone I hear from, everyone is slowed down due to Estes new attitude with HD.
We all hear both sides of these issues, i.e. someone will be on here saying be lucky you have a job, etc. Also, it's slow and so on. Yeah, it's winter slow, but we're the only ones going thru these issues right now. Others may be slow, but there not laying off and totally cutting runs.
Also hearing of transfer and rebid in SAC. Will see if that TM gets fired for drivers being allowed to retain there job status.
What's happening out east? Hearing things about Chicago, Indy and of course the Charlotte deal.
Can someone fire out some facts here so we can keep up to date? Real facts please. Let's try to keep this going in a manner that we don't have the crap flying.
Am trying hard to come up with a positive story, seriously, but so far no go. With the people out in the west now starting to feel the Estes employee relations biz, wonder if they will have a renewed effort to get some organization going.
Anyway, we are the only road driver/line-haul outfit laying off to the degree happening here. All the other majors are hiring. Yeah the slow down is mainly here, not elsewhere. Some say rebuilding accounts, others say the ever ready management style, still others saying Estes reputation is the self destruction going on. We'll never know for sure, but employees with families should be looking seriously at their future unless they believe a DHL type buyout is imminent. The GI boys thought things could only get better with Estes as far as management was concerned but feel they were screwed on that. Better hope a future buyout scenario would be better than the bottom.
